Premium cognac and spirits brand Hennessy and wine importer Golden Vines are sponsoring a scholarship open to all aspiring wine and spirits professionals. The new funding scheme is the Hennessy Golden Vines Diversity Scholarship in Spirits, launched with the Gérard Basset Foundation and Liquid Icons. The scholarship worth £55,000 (US$71,700) includes a 12-month internship programme at Hennessy and all examination costs for a Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 in Spirits qualification. WSET is the largest global provider of wine, spirits, and sake qualifications. The WSET Level 3 Award in Spirits is an advanced-level qualification for professionals and enthusiasts to acquire a detailed understanding of spirits. Level 3 awardees will develop the tasting skills required to describe and evaluate a spirit accurately.
The internship programme will provide experience in various departments at Hennessy, including education & training, winemaking, distillation, and final assemblage of Eaux-de-Vies. The scholarship winner will acquire a rare, immersive, and thus valuable understanding and knowledge of the brand and the making of cognac.
However, candidates need to have essential French conversational capability. Therefore, French language lessons may be required before joining (the costs will be part of the funding scheme).
