Food producers from Sarawak, Malaysia, are seeking new import partners, said the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS). The agency is a new project of the Sarawak State Government to strengthen and develop new trade, investment and tourism linkages between Singapore, Sarawak, and the world.
At last week's Restaurant Asia 2021 (RA 2021) in Singapore, the agency invited trade visitors to discover Sarawak food products. Their pavilion offers a wide range of authentic, organic products showcasing Sarawak's unique ethnic cuisine. The initiative last week coincided with the announcement that Kuching, a city in Sarawak, has attained recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
One of the latest arrivals in Singapore is Sarawak's sought-after authentic gula apong (Nipah palm sugar). With its sweet caramel flavour, gula apong is an appealing natural sweetener, and it offers a healthier alternative to white sugar.
Also new is the Kenyalang premium limited-edition range of coloured rice and vermicelli products. Three varieties of Sarawak rice have been labelled and officially certified as Geographical Indication due to their unique characteristics.
However, there are still products yet to debut in the Singapore market, Tasty Asia learned. For example, the Melange Butter, which has zero trans-fat, and is 100% natural, is still looking for interested importers. For more information on Sarawak's culinary delights, log on to www.statos.com.sg.
