Vacation rental online marketplace Airbnb has launched its Online Cooking Experiences in Singapore. The programme offers virtual foodie adventures and gives participants the experience of whipping up a 'gastronomic storm' in their kitchens with the help of celebrity chefs.
The collection of online cooking experiences pays homage to Singapore's diverse culinary landscape with offerings such as Secrets of a Michelin-starred Chef, an Online Experience hosted by chef Malcolm Lee of Candlenut, a Michelin-starred Peranakan restaurant. There are also online experiences from other leading F&B outlets such as Cheek (Flavours from Down Under with Chef Rishi), IBHQ (Cocktail Cabinet aka Mix it like a Pro) as well as Jekyll & Hyde (Classic Cocktails with a Touch of Singapore).
"Connecting with people through food is my passion as a chef. I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my passion with a global audience through Airbnb Online Experiences," said Lee. "I am looking forward to giving guests from all over the world the chance to discover and learn more about Singapore's famed food culture and Peranakan cuisine in the comfort of their own homes."
Chef Lee joins other award-winning chefs around the world featured in the curated collection of Online Cooking Experiences. These include David Chang (Momofuku Restaurant Group), Marc Favier (Marcore in Paris, France) and Christina Bowerman (Glass Hostaria in Rome, Italy).
The programme, which is supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), offers local F&B players an alternative revenue stream and the opportunity to reach global audiences.
"In the face of adversity, our F&B industry has shown that it is innovative, adaptable and willing to try out new business formats," said Ranita Sundra, director, Retail and Dining, STB. The Online Cooking Experiences in Singapore an opportunity for the industry to connect with customers in fresh ways, as well as diversify their business models, she concluded.
