Spurred by the need to lessen human-to-human contact in foodservice due to COVID-19, Chinese company Qianxi Group has opened its first robotic restaurant in Guangdong.
Powered by the latest robotic technologies, the vast restaurant has separate sections for Chinese food, hot pot and fast food, featuring a wide selection of dishes. More than 20 in-house advanced robots were programmed to process different restaurant cooking styles. The new robot-powered operation line aims to deliver food orders to diners as quickly as possible.
Qianxi said it is capable of building a complete industry chain consisting of back-end supply production (the centralised kitchens) and robotic cooking alongside the operation of restaurants and the management of robots. This year, the company plans to build more centralised kitchens in the cities of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Last month, China released the technical specification for robot safety certification in the food sector. The technical specification, jointly formulated by the country’s National Robot Testing and Accreditation Center (NRTAC) and Qianxi Group's technology subsidiary Zhiyuan, is hailed as the first of its kind in the country.
More smart dining technologies in the pipeline
Qianxi has partnered other firms to boost the use of smart dining technologies across China. Its agreement with Beijing Beichen Industrial Group aims to develop and deploy intelligent dining services at Beijing Beichen's convention centres. For example, Qianxi robots will be providing 24/7 smart dining services at the China National Convention Center, starting in January 2022.
Another strategic cooperation is with Siemens China. Both companies plan to accelerate the development of the smart dining segment, which includes creating the first innovative smart dining IoT platform. (Image from Qianxi Group)
